Join us to ensure that food-insecure elementary school children have meals and snacks to nourish them each weekend.
In 2009, Connie Laurent-Roy and Sandy Amato had a vision that began in a basement in Reston, Virginia. They knew not every child in Fairfax county had enough food on weekends and during school breaks. So they created Helping Hungry Kids (HHK) of Northern Virginia, a nonprofit organization, to serve the community.
During the 2022-23 school year, HHK provided more than 18,000 weekend food bags for children at seven local elementary schools.
Each bag contains 10-11 shelf-stable items that an elementary school student can prepare. We provide breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks for a child for the weekend. Pantry items include fruit cups, applesauce, pudding, cereal, soup, mac n' cheese, and milk.
Our future depends on continuing assistance from loyal supporters. HHK is seeking new sponsors and business partners who may contribute by providing donations, holding office/school/neighborhood food drives, or hosting benefit events.
Your support and contributions enable us to feed the future and fund our mission. Since 98% of contributions go towards food-insecure children, you can feel good about where your money goes.
Helping Hungry Kids of Northern Virginia is fiscally sponsored by and a DBA of CORE Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, EIN 20-5997764. All donations are tax-deductible.
We love our volunteers, so feel free to attend a weekly packing event or food drive. Contact hhk@corefoundation.org for details.
